1962 God’s interpreting seed is planted.
God planted the interpreting seed in me while attending a Walther League “Winter Weekend” event which included Trinity Lutheran Church of the Deaf’s Youth Group. This was the first time I was introduced to American Sign Language (ASL) and the Deaf community. I was so impressed with the language; I was determined to learn ASL and become an interpreter for the Deaf.
2011 God’s interpreting seed takes root.
I began to pursue my interpreting dream by enrolling in the ASL Associate’s Degree Program at Community College of Allegheny (CCAC). After my 2013 graduation, I attended Church Interpreting Training Institute (CITI) at Fort Wayne Seminary.
2018 God’s interpreting seed in full bloom and growing.
Through Pittsburgh Lutheran Deaf Ministries (PLDM) God’s Seed continues to grow through ASL Bible studies, catechesis, crafts, games and monthly Deaf socials as my interpreting skills are put to use.
2020 Interpreting the work of the Holy Spirit.
December, 2020, I had an incredible experience interpreting a Deaf, adult, woman’s Baptism and Confirmation. She is the first person from PLDM to become a member of First Trinity. I now realize why God planted the seed of interpreting in me back in 1962. My life’s purpose is complete.
